Work Adjustment
Work Adjustment provides on-site or community based supports to help individuals as they work to improve work skills, work behaviors, and emotional/physical tolerances necessary for all types of jobs. The length of this program depends on individual needs and how quickly an individual progresses toward achieving his/her goals. Individuals may be involved in a variety of activities to help prepare them for work, including sub-contract work, classes, and community activities.
This program is available primarily in Raleigh, but persons from Vance, Granville, Franklin, and Warren counties may be provided transportation to come to Raleigh, if desired. Limited Work Adjustment is available in Vance County.
Short-term training such as Work Adjustment typically requires less than 3 months for an individual to greatly improve work habits and begin to look for a job. Persons in Work Adjustment often address the following types of issues:
- Attendance and punctuality
- Accepting supervision and expressing needs to supervision in the right way
- On-going assessment and vocational counseling
- Career exploration and guidance
- Working cooperatively with other people
- How to reduce being distracted by other things
- Paying attention to detail and the quality of work
- Improving speed
- Learning to follow directions and ask questions
- Balancing work and personal lives
- How to use accommodations
- Improving physical or emotional stamina
As each person begins to meet their goals they have the option of receiving further support, including assistance with a job search and interviewing skills. Once goals are achieved, individuals may choose to work with a Job Coach through Work Adjustment Job Coaching look for a job independently, or be dischagred from Community Workforce Solutions, Inc. and choose another type of training.
